BOOTS AND SKIS
Getting the appropriate equipment is really important. Make sure your boots fit and are comfortable - they should be snug but not so tight your feet are cold. If you are not happy take them back and try something else. The same applies to your skis, many skiers have a preference for the make of ski they like to use.

FREE SKIING/BOARDING
There are a number of free drag lifts in all the Val Thorens resorts, these are all situated at the lower end of each resort.
1850 - Bellecote, Etoiles, Cospillot
1650 - Mickey, Belvédère

From then a mini ski pass can then be bought which gives limited access to a number of lifts. (more)

SKI SCHOOL
We do recommend ski school for beginners and there are very good ones available in each resort. (more)

PISTES There are some fantastic runs for beginners. The most suitable areas in 1850 are the top of Verdons or Jardin Alpin Gondolas. The area at the top of Verdons is extremely wide and gentle.

Renards is also ideal and joins up with Pralong, which runs down from the Jardin Alpin gondola practice.

1650 is a superb location for beginners as there are lots of open pistes with gentle gradients.

LUNCH
The first few days lunch is really important to ensure you have the stamina for the afternoon. In 1650 we recommend Le Petit Savoyarde which is through the buildings just to the right of the Ariondaz gondola, across the street hidden in the corner. Do reserve though 0479 08 27 44.

If you are in 1850 then the choice is enormous so take your pick but again reserve a table as lunch times are busy in the mountains.
